Manon Meurt is Vojtěch Pejša (guitar, vocals), KateřinaElznicová (vocals, guitar), Jiří Bendl (drums) and DavidTichý(synths and piano). Sparkling songs formed by soft and transcendent vocals, hypnotic bass lines, evolving drums and reverbed guitars are atrademark of this young quartet from Czech Republic.Manon Meurt hail from a small town Rakovník west of Prague.
Inspired by the British shoegaze movement of the early 90s and bands such as My Bloody Valentine, Lush, Ride or Slowdive have clearly helped shape the band’s sound. Though inspired, they sound original enough to stand out with their music. Moreover their live gigs and stage presence are so tight, you almost get a feeling they were born on stage. These quickly rising shoegaze stars have played alongside The Raveonettes, LSD and the Search for God and My Bloody Valentine. During the soundcheck for the latter, while Kevin Shields was still in the locker room, MBV’s sound engineer actually complained that Manon Meurt were playing too loud. Supporting My Bloody Valentine in Prague in 2013 was actually one of their first concerts and since then the band has toured several times all over Europe, from Ukraine to the UK or from Denmark to Croatia.
They played festivals in Czech and Slovak Republic like Colours of Ostrava, Pohoda Festival, United Islands of Prague, Waves Bratislava, Beseda u bigbítu, as well as festivals abroad Banát in Romania, Nürnberg. Popand Brückenfestival in Germany, Pre-Monte Fest in Croatia. They have also performed at showcase festivals Eurosonic Noorderslag, Reeperbahn Festival, Waves Vienna and MENT Ljubljana.
The self-titled 12" EP (first released in 2014 and then re-released by Canadian Label Obscura) got a plenty of attention on the international music blogosphere with praises going to the beautiful ethereal vocals and wonderful guitar work combined with atmospheric bass lines and precise drums. The long-awaited new album MMXVIII produced by Jan P Muchowwasreleased on 12th October 2018 on Minority Records. Well-composed songs and the band's ability to play outstanding live performances form together a perfect match. Manon Meurt are definitely a band to watch in the upcoming months and years to come.
