MaidaVale // Psych, Experimental Rock // Sweden
”As one of the most prominent acts in the new generation of psych music, Swedish four piece MaidaVale create a reckless and experimental rock that keeps diverging from what’s expected. After first emerging on the live rock scene in 2014, MaidaVale’s 2016 debut album ’Tales of the Wicked West’was received with open arms and launched them as one of the most promising newbands. The band have had a busy schedule touring Europe exstensively since. Known for their musicality and the electric connection between both musicians and audience, the band’s reputation has grown with each show. On their second album’Madness Is Too Pure’, released in early 2018, MaidaVale followed up with an even more experimental and dynamic sound that confirmed their place in the psych rock scene. The album, produced by Jari Haapalainen, was praised amongst both critics and fans for its bold and innovative take on the genre. It also got the band nominated for the Swedish music prize P3 Guldin the rock/metal category, alongsideacts like Graveyard and Lucifer. Up until this point MaidaVale have played renowned festivals like Freak Valley, Desertfest Berlin and Duna Jam.”

Acid Rooster
„Acid Rooster are pretty much a wet dream for heads who cram their cabinets
with Amon Düül, Spacemen 3, Wooden Shjips and Magma. The dynamics of
this band diverge from weightless, spaced out aerobatics to the more
sublime, monolithic jams. These guys deliberately avoid generic and succinct
ditties: each track is an epic journey into experimental rock’s most uncharted
domains.“ (Le Guess Who?)

Yoo Doo Right
Inspired by the pounding rhythmic improvisations found in krautrock, experimental trio Yoo Doo Right (Montréal, CA) wed noisy, melodic guitar parts, effect-heavy synthesizer soundscapes, nonchalant bass grooves and patented percussive furies into a literal wall of sound. Solemn, chin-to-chest vocals dance in and out of the primordial sonic spectrum, creating a warm pillow to rest a weary head upon. In their honest approach to experimentation, YDR engage with elements of shoegaze, post-rock and psychedelia, crafting a unique sound that could be described as a “car crash in slow motion”.
Over the years, YDR have toured all of Canada and the United States, playing festivals such as Austin’s Levitation Psych Fest, M for Montreal, Sled Island and Pop Montreal along the way. In 2018, they took on main support duties for Acid Mothers Temple’s North American tour, adding to the list of international bands they have shared the stage with that also includes DIIV, A Place to Bury Strangers, Wooden Shjips, Kikagaku Moyo, FACS, Frigs and Jessica Moss, amongst others.
Since their formation, YDR have released two EPs, Nobody Panicked And Everybody Got On (2016) and EP2 (2017), as well as a music video for “The Moral Compass Of A Self-Driving Car”. More recently, the 3 piece released a split 7” via Mothland, featuring legendary Japanese experimental titans, Acid Mothers Temple, and the single “Marché Pt. 3 (Ft. Jasmine Trails)”, found on the Sounds From Mothland Volume I mixtape.
Part interstellar ear-worms, part sonic experimentations, their upcoming opus sees the trio relentlessly chase, and successfully capture, the very essence of their art, resulting in layered bombastic tracks ranging from mechanical krautrock to audacious space rock. Don’t Think You Can Escape Your Purpose LP released on May 21, 2021 via Mothland, should absolutely please fans of Can, My Bloody Valentine and Metz, while also striking a chord with eclectic music aficionados who enjoy artists like Do Make Say Think, Beak> or Thee Oh Sees.
