Twisk (HH) + Top DOwn (Portland/Berlin) präsentiert von ByteFM 2G Konzert!

Im Juni veröffentlichten TWISK die in Ricks McPhails in „the upper room“ eingespielte LP „Intimate Polity“. Heute werden sie ihr erstes Clubkonzert seit Erscheinen des Albums spielen.
Luka und Lennart gründeten TWISK als Duo in der Besetzung Gitarre, Bass, Gesang und via Walkman abgespielten Tapeloops. Manche von ihnen waren Geschenke befreundeter Künstler*innen wie Tellavision, LADA oder René Huthwelcker, andere fertigte Luka an. Um diese Loops herum schrieb TWISK vom Post Punk der Young Marble Giants und Talking Heads beeinflusste Songs und veröffentlichte sie in DIY-Manier auf Kassette oder DVD.
Mario Schönings Einstieg als Schlagzeuger und dritte Gesangsstimme erweiterte die Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten TWISKs auf „Intimate Polity“ immens. Auch vorher ungenutzte Effektgeräte prägen seitdem den Charakter von Gitarre und Bass, die nun klirren und rauschen, trillern und perlen, wenn die Songs es verlangen. Als Trio arrangiert TWISK sie gemeinschaftlich, ihre Melodien winden sich und wachsen, sinken zusammen und gruppieren sich in unvorhergesehenen Variationen neu. Mit ihrem pointiert dynamischen Spiel füllt die Band trotz des überschaubaren Setups Gitarre, Bass, Schlagzeug und Gesang selbst erschaffene Räume aus Klang, virtuosen Minimal-Rock im Geiste von Gruppen wie Pavement, Deerhoof oder den frühen Yes, fokussierte Psychedelic von berückender Schönheit mit noisigen Tupfern.
Der Albumtitel Intimate Polity drückt TWISKs Zustimmung zur emanzipatorischen Feststellung „The personal is political.“ aus: „Wir spielen keine politische Musik, aber unser Musikmachen ist politisch. Deshalb ergänzen auf dem von Luka gestalteten Cover Parolen unsere Songs:

It was a hot summer day in June 2015 when TOP DOWN first got together in a
run-down band house in North Portland, Oregon. Rooted in the Rocknroll / punk
scene the trio crossed paths somewhere down the road years before.
Chuck Struggler had just moved back from Nevada City to his home town Portland, New Zealander Fiona Cambell (Chain & The Gang, Vivian Girls, Coasting etc.) happend to drop the anchor in Portland for a few years and szim stayed for an extended visit from Germany.
The outcome of that summer was a handful of songs and a basement show .
Fred Cole from DEAD MOON generously offered to record the jams –
analog reel-to-reel – just like in the old days. Then it was quiet for almost a year
until szim returned in 2016.
More songs and another recording session with Fred led to an offer from V oodoo Doughnuts’ owner Tres Shannon to put out TOP DOWN’s first 7” Silver Asheson his label Voodoo Doughnut Records.
In March 2016 Berlin based artist Jay Gard joined the band for a couple of live
shows in Berlin & Leipzig and the band’s first US tour in the Pacific Northwest
in summer 2016.
Throughout February 2017 TOP DOWN was honored to be the support act for
Fred & Toody Cole on their last European Tour. In March 2017 Voodoo Doughnut
Recordings released TOP DOWN’s debut album ROUGH ROADS.
In summer 2019 TOP DOWN released their 2nd album HARD FEELINGS on their
own label No Chance Berlin. It picks up where the first album ROUGH ROADS
left off and explores some new styles and features with a different drummer behind
the kit. The band sounds tighter, more confident and daring than on their debut,
paving the way to find their very own distinctive sound. Still lo-fi and garage punk with powerful guitar riffs & catchy melodies.
